Lismore, Armidale and Merimbula will host Protect Trans Youth rallies this Saturday, bringing the nationwide total on the National Day of Action eighteen.
Trans Justice Project’s call last week for a National Day of Action on Saturday (February 8) has well and truly taken off.
Three new Protect Trans Youth rallies have been added in the past 24 hours bringing the national count to eighteen.
All in New South Wales, the rallies will take place throughout the day in Lismore, Armidale and Merimbula.
“We have thousands of people sharing the events online,” Jackie Turner from Trans Justice Project said.
“Plus hundreds of organisers and parents and kids are travelling from all over so that they can be there.
“Together, we will demand the Queensland government reinstate care for trans youth.
“Making gender-affirming care accessible and affordable for everyone who needs it.
“The power of these events will be in us coming together all across the continent and showing our solidarity with Queensland youth.”
Some tips ahead of Saturday’s rallies
Before the rallies on Saturday, the trans-led, national campaigning organisation shared some information about what to expect.
These events are family-friendly, centring on the experiences and participation of trans youth and their families.
Everyone is welcome and the focus will be a welcoming, and joyful vibe, despite the seriousness of the issue.
The events will feature several speakers, sharing their experiences, perspectives, and calls to action.
BRings flags, banners, streamers and signs, these events should be colourful.
Depending on the weather where you are, be sure to be protected.
This means sunscreen, snacks, water, or an umbrella or poncho if needed.
Be aware that everyone’s needs are different, some people will need chairs, clear walkways, or shade.
Help make the event more accessible for those who need it.
Trans Justice Project has encouraged people to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID.
They will do their best to have some masks and hand sanitiser on-site but probably not enough for everyone so please bring your own too.
